28 July 2006 - The Department of Foreign Affairs convened a conference in Dublin entitled: Reconciliation Networking Forum.  Mairin Colleary, Glencree CEO, pictured below chairing the opening panel, seated (from Right to Left) is Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, TD, Mairin Colleary, Alastair Simpson and Rev Bill Shaw.

28 July 2006 - Discovery Tours in Sligo bring a group of American teachers to Glencree who are interested in learning more about Glencree's Peace Education programme, specifically secondary school courses.  Discovery Tours provides educational, recreational and cultural tours mostly for schools from the United States.

23 July 2006 - A new exhibition, "Diversity in Colour", new paintings by artist Donnie Browne, was opened at Glencree by Mildred Fox, TD.

9-13 July 2006 - Two groups of youth that are part of Experiment in International Living (EIL) stayed at Glencree during July to learn more about the Irish-British conflict.  EIL is a learning organisation that offers long and short term educational travel programmes such as language courses, volunteer programmes and high school and homestay programmes.

 

12 July 2006 – Ballyroan-Drumcree Friendship Group was hosted by Glencree.  This is a group of primary school children who come to Glencree every July.  They also stay with families in Dublin and participate in Peace Education classes at Glencree.

 

6 July 2006 - The Peace Factory from Fort de Bilt in The Netherlands visited Glencree to help us explore ways to create our own Peace Factory in Ireland.

 

5 July 2006 - “Voices in Praise” a youth choir from the Friendship United Methodist Church in Friendship, Maryland, USA inspired visitors, staff and volunteers at Glencree with their beautiful voices.  We would like to thank them for their visit and congratulate them on their wonderful performance.

 

 

27 June 2006 - Glencree hosted a farewell dinner for the Israeli Ambassador, Daniel Megiddo, who is leaving Ireland next month.  Ambassador Megiddo recently planted a tree at Glencree with the former Palestinian Delegate, Ali Halimeh, to acknowledge and honour the efforts of the Voluntary Service International (VSI). This follows on a tradition of hosting farewell events in which Glencree acknowledges the support and service of both Palestinian and Israeli Ambassadors to Ireland.

 

25 June 2006 - A new Art Exhibition "Every Picture Tells a Story" was opened by Alan McBride, a youth worker from Belfast. The exhibition was compiled over a three year period by the WAVE Trauma Centre in Belfast and consists of artwork by children aged five to twenty-five. 

 

23-25 June 2006 - The Sustainable Peace Network met at Glencree bringing together about 30 individuals to explore ways of strengthening the network.   The first day began with a visit from The South African Peace Project.

22 June 2006 - A cross party Iraqi delegation of high-level politicians including an advisor to the Prime Minister and President met at Glencree to discuss issues of peace and reconciliation in Iraq. Among other issues the group was interested in the concept that there is no security solution to security problem and that the solution might be more sustainable if it is based on politics.

14 June 2006 – A group of Global Volunteers arrive at Glencree to contribute their time and energy to a two-week voluntary project.

13 June 2006 – Minister Tom Parlon, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works, visits glencree. Below, Minister Parlon greets Glencree staff.

 

9-11 June 2006 - "Deepening the Dialogue", the annual convention with survivors and former combatants, is held at Glencree.  For information contact Jacinta De Paor.

 

7 June 2006 - Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, visits Glencree. Pictured right, Minister Ó Cuív views the reconstruction of the Armoury building with Paddy Creen, Glencree Chairman (left) and Mairin Colleary, Chief Executive (centre).  The Office of Public Works is refurbishing several of the historical buildings on the Glencree site.  There will be additional meeting rooms, bedrooms, new office space, as well as a new café and retail shop.

 

 

7 June 2006 - Glencree's Friends and Members all gathered at the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation for a beautiful summer evening of socialising and learning about the organisation's recent activities and progress.
