Leadership and Conflict Resolution Skills

Venue: Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation, Co. Wicklow

Duration: 20 hours (approx.)

The course is an intended as an introduction to the themes of leadership and conflict resolution both separately and in an integrated way. It is based on Glencree’s experience on working with diverse groups in a peacebuilding context where leadership is a vital ingredient.

Aims:

  •  To analyse and understand conflict and its suppression and develop approaches to deal with it creatively through activities and case studies
  • To identify key issues for participants in relation to conflict and define ways to work through these issues relevant to their own contexts
  • To explore and develop negotiation skills as an approach to conflict resolution
  • To focus on the role of leadership and approaches to developing leadership skills

Content:

  • Understanding and awareness of conflict dynamics
  • Creative approaches and skills for dealing with conflict
  • Planning and practicing negotiating
  • Styles and skills for good leadership

  • NGO workers from development, human rights, peacebuilding backgrounds

Price:  €300 including meals and accommodation for two nights

Facilitators:

Eamon Rafter

Eamon is Learning Co-ordinator at Glencree with responsibility for the development, delivery and assessment of training programmes for young people and adults. He has worked in this role since 2005 and has run a wide range of programmes on conflict resolution, peacebuilding, intercultural practice and leadership in Ireland and internationally

Yaser Alashqar

Yaser was born and raised in Gaza, Palestine and experienced the violent conflict in the region since he was a child and lost family members during the conflict. He studied at  Al-Azhar University of Gaza and in 2005 came to Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland to work in developing the Middle East Programme. He has an MA in Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies and continues to facilitate peace and youth projects and education programs in Ireland North and South.
