PRESS RELEASE

Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation receives capital development grant from the International Fund for Ireland

The International Fund for Ireland has committed a grant for the completion of developments on the site of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Co. Wicklow. The development includes a new reception and administration area and provides additional accommodation for 20 people at Glencree.  The grant will also include the refurbishment of the Wicklow Wing where the international volunteers live. These developments will greatly enhance the site, adding to the historic buildings including the 18th Century British Army Barracks, refurbished by the Office of Public Works in 2000. The grant is part of the International Fund for Ireland’s Legacy Project.

The approval is the outcome of a collaborative process between the International Fund for Ireland, the Office of Public Works and the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.  The application process took only one year to conclude and reflects the high level of co-operation and support between all the parties.
Máirín Colleary, Chief Executive of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation warmly welcomed the announcement: “The approval of a grant for new developments at Glencree reflect the confidence of the IFI in the work of the organisation.  It will allow the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation to implement its five-year strategic plan, of which this development is a major part, and will allow the peacebuilding work of the organisation to reach an ever greater number of people on the island of Ireland and beyond” said Ms. Colleary.

The International Fund for Ireland was established by the British and Irish Governments in 1986 and is funded by contributions from the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, the European Union and Australia.
