29th – 30th August 2009 - The Annual Glencree Summer School took place this weekend with the topic: “What the South needs to hear; What the North needs to say”. Politicians, prisoners groups, victims groups, women’s groups and many more came to Glencree to discuss some of the most pressing issues in Northern Ireland. Click here to read more about the Summer School.

8th – 11th August 2009 - Between the 8th and the 11th of August 2009 former volunteers and staff of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation were invited back for a reunion. It was a wonderful weekend of reminiscing and catching up for all who were there. Click here to read more about the weekend.

21 May 2009 - The Bray Cualann Historical Society held a lecture on the history of the Glencree site in the Bray Chamber of Commerce.  The event was open to the public and historian Pat Power was the main speaker.

8-10 May 2009 - The Glencree Women's Programme held a weekend of learning and reflection for a diverse group of participants, run by Eamon Rafter (Glencree Learning Co-ordinator), Phil Killeen (Women's Programme Co-ordinator) and Sorcha Tormey (Facilitator and Director of Co-exist).  This was a valuable experience for the 30 participants, as well as for the organisers, and the learning is currently being harvested.  Click here to read more about the learning experience

3-10 May 2009 - a Parliamentary delegation from Afghanistan, including 10 Members of Parliament, visited Ireland to learn about the peace process.  They spent several days at Glencree, and visited with Members of the Dail in Dublin, the President Mary McAleese, and in Belfast they met with members of the Legislative Assembly inlcuding the First and Deputy First Ministers. This learning experience is a key part of Glencree's on-going programme work in Afghanistan, where we work with civil society groups, universities, and government, in co-operation with Trocaire and Norwegian Church Aid.  The trip was funded by the Afghanistan Parliamentary Assistance Programme (APAP), the State University of New York (SUNY), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

29 April 2009 – Over 100 people attended the “Authentic Leadership Café” which Glencree co-hosted with Authentic Leadership in Action (ALIA), Change Exploratory, the Burren Leardership Forum, Irish Coaching Development Networks and the Cultivate Living and Learning Centre in Dublin.

29 April 2009 – A group of 20 people from Diageo’s Dublin Brewery Team spent the day at Glencree providing a much-needed coat of paint to several of the conference rooms.  They did a fantastic job and left the place looking fresh and new - thank you Diageo!

23 April 2009 - Glencree hosted a workshop on Post War Societies with a group of transition year students from Colāiste Dhūlaigh. Some of the students had been involved in a visit to Ho Chi Minh City organised by Worldwise with funding from Irish Aid. They had also fundraised over $3,000 which was contributed to a school on the visit. At the workshop in Glencree Nguyen Ngoc Hung, a Masters student of Development Studies in University College Dublin (UCD) spoke to the group about the post war challenges faced by the Vietnamese people. Eamon Rafter introduced the work of Glencree and the role of reconciliation in post war societies with reference to Northern Ireland. The day was a good follow up to the Vietnam trip and allowed the students develop a broader understanding of the consequences of war and violent conflict.

21-23 April 2009A group of 60 young people from the Soltun Folkegskole in Norway came to Glencree to learn about peacebuilding, conflict resolution and reconciliation.
