17 December 2006 – Forest Friends Ireland celebrated the Winter Solstice at Glencree by planting four willow trees, and held its Annual General Meeting at Glencree. Numerous charities and community groups use Glencree's facilities which are located in the hills of Wicklow, 12 miles outside of Dublin. 14-17 December 2006 - A group of Palestinians and Israelis met at Glencree as part of a study\dialogue visit. The group included members of Israel's Knesset as well as Palestinian leaders including two former ministers. During their visit they met with key actors in the Irish Peace Process including Irish Government officials and politicians from a variety of parties.
13-14 December 2006 – Glencree’s Peace Education Programme Facilitator Panel met for their quarterly Facilitator Gathering, to review and explore the further development of the Peace Education Programme and to enhance their skills development with further in-service training. The Peace Education Programme Facilitation Panel delivers the programme to schools throughout the year.
13 December 2006 - Glencree's EU Facilitator Panel, a team of trained professionals who deliver Glencree's two EU funded programmes, the Survivors and Former Combatants Programme and the Churches Programme, met for a day of training
11 December 2006 - Nenad Sebek, Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe (CDRSEE) visited Glencree and spoke to staff and volunteers about the legacy of the conflict in the Balkans. We discussed shared experiences of peacebuilding in Europe - East and West.
8-9 December 2006 - The end of year gathering of participants and workers in Glencree's Lets Involve the Victims Experience (LIVE) programme is an opportunity to review the year's work as well as to renew acquaintances.
7 December 2006 - The Corrymeela Community in Northern Ireland and the Glencree Centre continue to work together towards peace and reconciliation, as discussed at a recent visit by Corrymeela Director, Ronnie Miller. 6 December 2006 - Maixabel Lasa, Minister for Victims in the Basque Government, and a delegation from the Basque region of Spain came to Glencree to share their experiences of living with conflict and study our Survivors and Former Combatants programme.
6 December 2006 - A team from the marketing department of Vodafone participated in an interactive workshop run by Glencree's Education Development and Training Officer, Eamon Rafter. Businesses, as well as community and other groups, are welcome to contact us for more information about the workshops we offer.
4-5 December 2006 - A group of American college students paid a return visit to Glencree as part of a course run by the School for International Training (SIT). The students get an opportunity to study Glencree's role in peacebuilding and fostering reconciliation on these islands.
1-2 December 2006 - Foroige, the organisation whose aim is “empowering youth and enriching communities” will come to Glencree for a two-day workshop, facilitated by Glencree staff. Glencree has Peace Education Programmes with schools and other youth groups and facilities for overnight stays.
22-24 November 2006 – Glencree’s Churches Programme held a workshop in An Teach Ban Centre for Peacebuilding, in Downings, Co. Donegal. The workshop, called ‘Strands of Christianity’, aimed to increase participants understanding of the four main Christian denominations in Ireland: Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Methodist and Roman Catholic. 22 November 2006 – Ian White, Director of Glencree’s International and Political Programmes, spoke at the opening of a photographic exhibition, Illegal Portraits, which shows the plight of Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic. Glencree is running training workshops in Haiti in partnership with Concern.
22 November 2006 - “Hope for the Holy Land”, a public meeting with a presentation by Rev. Fadi Diab, an Anglican priest from the Palestinian Territories, was held in Stillorgan, Co Dublin.. The meeting covered a range of topics related to the day-to-day challenges of living in the Territories. The meeting was facilitated by Geoffrey Corry and is part of Glencree’s Churches Programme.
19 November 2006 – German Remembrance Day was commemorated at Glencree with an ecumenical service at St. Kevin's Church and a wreath-laying ceremony at the German Military Cemetery by the Ambassador of Germany, Christian Pauls. The commemoration was followed by a seminar on “The Role of the Military in Peacebuilding.” Speakers were Lieutenant Colonel Andreas Unkelbach, the Assistant Air Attaché at the German Embassy in London, Colonel Tom Behan or the Irish Defence Forces, and Mr. Ian White, Director of the Political and International Programmes at Glencree. 15 November 2006 – The International Fund for Ireland, USAID and the newly appointed American Ambassador to Ireland, Thomas C. Foley, visited Glencree to hear more about the IFI supported education work and new capital development project. 15-16 November 2006 – Staff of the Organic Centre, Co. Leitrim participated in a two day workshop at Glencree to learn about the evaluation process for cross-border projects in Ireland. This is a continuation of our partnership to find commonality between organic gardening and peacebuilding. The theme of the project is ‘cultivating peace in a shared environment’ which is the aim of the cross border work they are doing in Leitrim/Fermanagh. We will continue to work with the Organic Centre to develop a guide to good practice in ‘peace cultivation’.
14 November 2006 – Glencree hosted Ms. Dolly Ford, a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Social Work, West Virginia University (WVU), USA. Ms Ford visited Glencree as part of a 7 day trip to Ireland to explore possible Service Learning projects for Students and Faculty Members from WVU. This visit is in conjunction with Amizade, the Global Service-Learning Consortium
8 November 2006 – Raul Araujo, the arts coordinator with the Cross Border Centre in Dundalk, facilitated a workshop at Glencree introducing the practice and techniques of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed.
8 November 2006 – Brendan Crowley, the longest serving volunteer at Glencree, celebrated his 70th Birthday, with an evening of warm Birthday wishes, and fond memories from his 20 years at Glencree. Previous volunteers, current volunteers, staff, and other friends joined in the celebration. In the photo are Brendan and his trusted companion, Finn.
6 November 2006 – Channel Research ran an evaluation workshop with Glencree staff and volunteers for the European Union. Emery Brusset, Margie Buchanan Smith, Marie Hainsworth, and Sean McGearty led us through a process of mapping the conflict in Ireland, North and South, allowing us to visualise how our programme work fits in to the socio-political and historical context. Similar workshops are being held in Dundalk, Monaghan, Derry and Enniskillen as part of an evaluation of EU funded projects.
3-19 November 2006 – The Sustainable Peace Network sent a group of 15 people on a trip to South Africa. Participants were from all parts of society including survivors of the troubles, former combatants, business leaders and community workers.
3 November 2006 – Twelve women graduated from the 6-module, one-year course that is Glencree’s Women’s Programme. The Women’s Committee awarded certificates to the women who come from Ireland, North and South, and abroad.
