January - February 2009 - A team of Glencree facilitators are delivering Peace Education training to university lecturers from several colleges in Kabul. This is part of an on-going initiative in partnership with Trocaire, an Irish development agency. Later this year, Peace Education courses will be delivered at these colleges for the first time.
21 January 2009 - Open Day for the Glencree Valley Neighbours welcomed over 30 neighbours for a presentation of our recent work, as well as time for socialising with wine and cheese.
11-21 January 2009 - Eamon Rafter led a group of four young adults to Jerusalem to engage with others from Northern Ireland, Palestine and Israel as part of an EU funded project on active citizenship. Against a very challenging context of atrocities, the group discussed what young people can do to influence their governments. The aim of the project was to bring young people together to exchange experience and explore how they could be active agents in times of conflict. Despite the situation in Gaza, it was decided to proceed with the project as young Palestinians are more than ever trying to define a way of working peacefully, in times such as these. Partner organisations are Public Achievement in Northern Ireland, Leaders Organisation in Ramallah and the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem.
16 January 2009 - Glencree held its second briefing for diplomats on the Irish Peace Process.
January 2009 - Members of the British and Irish Afghan Aid Group (BAAG) visited Glencree to discuss cooperation in our evolving work in Afghanistan. Glencree is delivering Peace Education Training to Educators in Kabul in partnership with Trocaire.
January 2009 – A 50-minute documentary was aired on Japanese television on the Glencree Sustainable Peace Network. The film includes interviews with participants, and then follows them along a 5-day wilderness experience in the Scottish Highlands.
12 December 2008 - Glencree ran a training course for new diplomatic staff at five Embassies in Dublin: an Introduction to the Northern Irish Peace Process.
9-14 December 2008 - Voluntary Service International (VSI) is hosting its annual international meeting at Glencree. VSI is the Irish branch of Service Civil International (SCI) a movement working for peace and international understanding through the medium of international voluntary service. Each year over 4,000 volunteers take part in international volunteer projects organised by branches of SCI. Delegates from 30 branches worldwide will meet for 5 days at Glencree to review their work in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Europe and North America. 5-8 December 2008 - A group from the Basque Country are holding a workshop at Glencree to discuss issues related to the conflict.
3-5 December 2008 – Participants from Student International Training (SIT) stayed at Glencree and took courses in conflict and peacebuilding.
5 December 2007 - Today is International Volunteer Day! Thank you to all the volunteers who contribute to peacebuilding and reconciliation at Glencree and around the world.
16 November 2008 - German Remembrance Day was held at Glencree with a record turn out of 140 people, including media. It was a quiet time of reflection for all the war dead, from World Wars I and II. Three women, who had come to Glencree as young refugee's from Germany in 1947 and then were adopted by Irish families, attended the moving event. 10 November 2008 - A group of Sustainable Peace participants spent the day at Glencree as part of their year of activities.
7-9 November 2008 - the Women's Programme are holding a training module over the weekend at Glencree.
6 November 2008 - A Table Quiz is being held in Ballinteer, Dublin, in support of the Noble-Tyrell fund for volunteers coming to Glencree from developing countries.
4-6 November 2008 - The International Volunteers living at Glencree for the year are taking a study trip to Belfast and Northern Ireland.
