Places of interest in the Glencree area
 

The Glencree valley and surrounding area offer many opportunities for visitors - walks, restaurants, pubs, historical sites and much more.

German Military Cemetery – Next to the Glencree Centre, cut into the hillside, is the quiet and peaceful German Military Cemetery.  For a history of the site, click here.

Enniskerry, County Wicklow – The closest village to Glencree is Enniskerry, where you can find restaurants, pubs, shops, boutiques, a golf course, and more. 

Bray, County Wicklow – The town of Bray is an easy drive from Glencree, and has much to offer from pubs, restaurants and seaside walks.

Walking

The Wicklow Way – Numerous walking trails allow visitors to see much of County Wicklow on foot.

Hilltop Treks – Guided walks of Wicklow are filled with breathtaking views and beautiful scenery.  Choose between 1, 2 and 3-5 day treks. 

Carrickgollogan, Enniskerry.  Mixed woodland and forest roads provide a variety of walks.  The two main attractions are the viewing point and the now disused lead mine chimney.

Knocksink Woods, Enniskerry.  A mature woodland reserve which is home to several rare and threatened Irish species of plants and animals.

Walking trails of Glendalough, Co. Wicklow.  Situated in a stunningly beautiful valley in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, Glendalough is an ancient monastic settlement from the 6th century.  There are a variety of walks around the valley and woods.

Powerscourt Waterfall, Enniskerry.  This is Ireland’s highest waterfall and is surrounded by woods.  Ideal for woodland walks and picnics.

Seefin and Seefingan mountains, Kilbride, Co. Wicklow.  A visit here combines a walk in the hills with a stroll through history.  The climb leads to a prehistoric tomb site.

 

Other activities

Glendalough Visitor Centre, Co. Wicklow.  Glendalough is renowned for its magnificent scenery and heritage.  The visitor centre is adjacent to ruins of the monastic settlement and guided tours are provided.

Kippure Estate, Manor Kilbride, Co. Wicklow.  This 240 acre estate is set in the Wicklow mountains and is ideal for walking and outdoor activities including Adventure Ropes, Climbing and Abseiling, Archery, and Orienteering.

Annamoe Trout Fishery, Annamoe, Co. Wicklow.  Fly fishing lake allowing you to fish for brown and rainbow trout.

The Bray Jazz Festival – takes place in Bray each year on the May Bank Holiday – the first weekend in May.

The Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures takes place each year during the last weekend in August.  Music, dance, food and other goods come from around the world

Avoca Handweavers shop in Kilmacanogue is close to Glencree, and has a garden centre, coffee shop/restaurant, clothes, blankets, jewellery and much more.

Poppies, Enniskerry Village.  Wholesome country cooking.

Powerscourt House and Gardens, Enniskerry.  Terrace café overlooking magnificent and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Emilia’s Ristorante Pizzeria, Enniskerry.  Italian pizza and pasta restaurant.

Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs, Co. Wicklow. The Glenview Hotel and Leisure Centre is located within scenic gardens and only a ten minute drive from Enniskerry.  Fine dining available in The Woodlands Restaurant and the Conservatory Bar.

Ritz Carlton Hotel, Enniskerry.  This luxury hotel is located within the ground of the Powerscourt Estate and offers a host of amenities including a championship golf course, luxury spa, and a Gordon Ramsay signature restaurant.

The Summer Hill House Hotel is a beautiful house in Enniskerry with restaurant and banqueting facilities.

 

Pubs

Johnny Fox’s Pub - This famous venue is known as the highest pub in Ireland and offers food, dancing and hooley!

Nancy Murphy’s, Enniskerry.  A traditional pub with bar menu and music at the weekends.  The best place in town to meet the locals!  Tel: 01 2868333.
