Peace Education and Young Adultsadmin
We offer one-day modules for school groups at Glencree to share some of our learning in a range of different areas. These are suitable for Transition Year students but can also be adapted to other age groups. Students have an opportunity to learn skills and explore different themes under the broad heading of ‘Peace Education’ in activity based workshops. Our facilitators are experienced in working with young people and we prioritise their safety while offering a positive learning experience. The duration of these workshops is approximately four and a half hours and lunch is available from our café.
Glencree has always placed youth and young adults from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland at the centre of its work and their inclusion remains vital to the future development of the organisation. We believe that the mission of building peace and deepening reconciliation must include their voices and active engagement as part of the goal of creating a better future on this island. With this in mind we want to offer a process to help them develop capacity and leadership skills to play these roles more effectively.
Programmes and projects that emphasise learning have been a significant element of Glencree’s work over the past fifteen years. Through our ‘peace education’ work, the insights gained from other Glencree programmes can be made available to wider society at many different levels. These learning programmes provide a way to broaden the impact of the work we have been involved in that is accessible to schools, youth groups, universities and other NGOs /community organisations. This is a sharing of learning opportunity for everyone interested in peace and reconciliation.
