After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Marie joined Arthur Andersen’s tax division in Dublin. She went on to establish a specialised tax consultancy practice in 1988, and formed Barr Pomeroy with Michael Pomeroy in 1989. Marie was a council member of Chartered Accountants Ireland from 1998 to 2005; was Chair of the CCAB-I Taxation Committee from 1999 to 2008; and, was the Chair of the Tax Administration Liaison Committee (TALC) from 2003 and 2007. Marie has lectured extensively for Chartered Accountants Ireland, and other professional bodies, on taxation matters and has written various articles for Accountancy Ireland. She is one of five “people of standing” appointed by the Minister for Finance under the EU Arbitration Convention.
